SupplementsFemale healthEvidence-ranked
This is a new section and starts with the single most-asked question we get from women around menopause: does anything herbal actually help with hot flashes? We will keep adding here — prenatal nutrition, PMS and cycle-related topics are next on the list. As always, nothing here replaces a conversation with your doctor, especially for hormone-related symptoms.
Read this first
- Menopausal hot flashes & night sweats: black cohosh is the best-studied herbal option — modest, inconsistent benefit depending on the product, plus a real if rare liver-safety signal worth knowing about.
- Hormone therapy and prescription non-hormonal options remain more reliably effective where they are suitable — talk to your doctor about the full menu before choosing a supplement alone.
- None of these are treatments for any disease; they are supplements to discuss with a healthcare provider, not replacements for one.
Menopause — hot flashes & night sweats
Moderate, product-dependent
Black cohosh (Actaea racemosa) is the household name here, used for over a century for vasomotor menopause symptoms. The full picture is genuinely mixed: pooling every study design and preparation together, the 2012 Cochrane review found no significant benefit over placebo — but trials using a single, well-standardized extract have shown more consistent improvement, which is why clinical bodies describe the evidence as inconsistent rather than simply negative. There is also a real, if rare and likely idiosyncratic, liver-safety signal to know about before starting it. Read the full breakdown →
More on the way. Prenatal and pregnancy nutrition, PMS/cycle support and other female-health topics will be added here as we write them — this section is deliberately starting small rather than rushing out thin pages.
