Creatine monohydrate is about as good as supplement evidence gets: hundreds of trials, a clear performance benefit, an excellent safety record, and a well-understood dose of 3–5 g per day.1 None of that is in question here. The question is whether a gummy is a sensible way to deliver it — and on that point, the testing data is blunt.

What the lab tests found
Two testing rounds stand out. In March 2024 the supplement manufacturer NOW Foods bought twelve popular creatine gummy products from Amazon and company websites and ran them through its analytical lab. Seven met their label claims. Five contained little to no creatine at all — and every failing product also contained measurable creatinine, the breakdown product you get when creatine degrades.5
In June 2025 the supplement-tracking company SuppCo published its own independent round: six widely sold gummy brands, tested for actual creatine content. Four of the six failed. The worst offender claimed 5 g per serving and delivered 0.005 g — you would have needed roughly two thousand gummies a day to hit the label dose. Another measured 0.00%.4
A detail from the NOW round is worth pausing on: NOW normally sends products to outside labs to confirm its results, and reported that none of its usual third-party labs would even take on gummy analysis — the format is that awkward to test reliably. A category where half the products fail and independent verification is hard to buy is not a category that deserves the benefit of the doubt.5
Why gummies are hard to get right
This is not only a story about careless brands. Creatine has a known chemical weakness: in solution — especially warm and acidic solution — it cyclizes into creatinine, which does nothing for performance. As a dry powder it is stable for years; dissolved, it starts converting within days, faster at low pH and higher temperature.3
Now look at how a gummy is made: the ingredients are heated into a syrup, acidified for flavor (citric acid is nearly universal), deposited into molds, and then stored as a soft, moist candy for months. Heat, acid, moisture, time — every step works against creatine. A manufacturer can compensate with overages and careful process control, and the NOW tests show some genuinely manage it. But the format is fighting the molecule, which is why the failure rate is so much worse than for plain powder, where there is essentially nothing to get wrong.
Absorption: no advantage either way
Marketing for gummies sometimes hints at better uptake or gentler digestion. There is no evidence for this. Creatine monohydrate taken as powder in water is absorbed nearly completely — intestinal absorption is close to 100%, which is why it has remained the reference form in research for three decades.2 There is no absorption problem for a gummy to solve. The only uptake question that matters with gummies is whether the creatine is still creatine by the time you eat it.
The dose and sugar problem
An effective dose is 3–5 g per day.1 A gummy can physically hold only so much of any active ingredient — most honest products manage around 1–1.5 g per gummy, which means four or five gummies every day to reach a real dose. That is also why the first ingredient on the label is almost always glucose syrup: the bulk of what you are chewing is candy, with creatine dispersed through it. Daily use means a small but permanent added-sugar habit stapled to your supplement — harmless for most people at these amounts, but worth noticing when the whole point was health.
The same logic applies to every "supplement gummy", by the way — collagen, multivitamins, apple cider vinegar. The format caps the dose, the sugar carries it, and anything moisture-sensitive degrades. Creatine is simply the case where independent labs have now measured how badly it can go.
Price per gram of actual creatine
Plain creatine monohydrate powder is one of the cheapest supplements in existence — bulk tubs work out to roughly $0.10–0.15 per 5 g dose. Gummy products typically cost $1–2 per labeled dose, so you are paying roughly ten to twenty times more per gram on the label — before accounting for the risk that the gram isn't actually in there. Fold in the failure rates above and the effective price per gram of verified creatine in a random gummy purchase becomes genuinely absurd.
If you still want gummies
Consistency beats format. If gummies are genuinely the difference between taking creatine daily and forgetting it, a good gummy beats an unused tub. Just shop like a skeptic:
- Demand recent third-party test results for the exact product and batch — a published certificate of analysis, not a "lab tested" badge. The NOW and SuppCo rounds both found brands that pass honestly, so they do exist.45
- Do the arithmetic on the label: grams of creatine per gummy times gummies per day. If one gummy claims 5 g, be suspicious — that is physically a lot of creatine for one candy.
- Avoid unknown marketplace brands. Every near-zero product in both test rounds was an Amazon-native label.
- Store them cool and use them up — degradation continues on the shelf.
